Hello... is anybody there??? If so, I apologize for the Christmas update that has forever taken over Luke's blog. I know... not cool in July. Life just gets busy.
How do I go about summing up the last 6 months (ok... seven months) ??? Is that even possible? Maybe... there's actually not that much to tell, but still, get ready... it's gonna be a big one.
Things have not been great for Luke the last few months. He has been going through some terrible crying episodes along with some various behaviors related to either some type of pain or stress. One of the problem behaviors we've been dealing with is that he's been scratching and pinching himself off and on, and sometimes so much that we have to put gloves on his hands. We We have had no suggestions from his pediatrician and things I have suggested we have checked for and ruled out. Which in a way is good... but leaves us without an answer. The best guess we can come up with is that he suffers from abdominal migraines, another word for a really bad stomach ache, which I've heard can often affect kids with CHARGE. I haven't been able to get any of his doctors to look at his diet much, to rule out that his formula may be causing problems for him. Until last week, we saw a new doctor, who actually took time to listen to what's been going on and consider a change in his diet. In fact, she feels strongly that a change could very likely improve many aspects of Luke's health and behavior. The only problem is that she went on vacation the very next day after seeing her, so i am still waiting to hear from her and what she's come up with for changes. It's been very frustrating seeing Luke go through these cycles of stress and crying, so I'm very hopeful this change in diet will pay off.
On a good note, respiratory-wise, Luke had an excellent winter and spring. This was the first winter he has not had pneumonia. All his colds were bearable and treatable at home. We can only pray for another winter like that!
The summer's been flying by. Both Jon and Josh have been working a lot. They both work for UPS, but Josh works in Fargo. We don't get to see him as much as we'd like. Taylor just turned 16, got her first job and is taking behind-the-wheel training. Other than that, she sleeps and hangs out with friends, typical teenager stuff. Alex has been playing lots of baseball and is guaranteed to be bored the rest of the summer now that baseball's over. His Little League team made it to State and played in the State Tournament last weekend. They lost but we had a fun time anyway. We've been taking it pretty easy with Luke this summer. Not a lot of therapy or school. He's been so unpredictable with his moods. Really happy one week and really unhappy the next, so we've been trying to get to the bottom of what's causing these mood swings. Hoping we'll figure it out SOON!
We took a short trip to Duluth for Luke's aunt's wedding. It was really nice and a fun time and the kids had a great time at the waterpark at our hotel. We haven't been able to get to the lake very much this year, but we're hoping to get in a couple of good weekends yet before the end of summer.
Also, Luke's cousin Patrick still needs a kidney. He is on dialysis now for 12 hours every day and it's very hard for him. Please consider being his donor and help us spread the word! He desperately need a donor.
And seriously, what's the deal with the weather? What a crazy summer! Seems like the whole world heard about the F4 tornado that hit Wadena. We were less than half a mile from it... we were very lucky. Others lost their homes and were not as lucky. I've never seen such destruction in my life. But thank God no one was killed. That still amazes me. Clean up of the town is coming along. Homes are being repaired and homes will be rebuilt but it will never be the same. There is no way to replace the big beautiful trees that were lost. And no way to replace people's personal items like pictures. I think that would be the hardest thing for me. It's really quite sad. So if you watch the movie Twister, when you see cows and big trucks flying through the air, don't laugh... it really happens! Since the tornado hit, we've had one tornado warning after another and many close calls. It seems like our area is a hot spot this year! I hate to think what the winter will be like if something doesn't change!
Well, pictures seem to be the best way to catch up, however, I slacked off a little that department, but here's what I've got.
Our little town we've lived in our whole lives was devastated by an F4 tornado...

Our High School... where both Jon and I graduated from.

Nice day at the lake on the 4th of July... Luke really liked the fireworks display later that night.

Whew... I did it! Until next time.

So good to hear an update from you, Shelly! I'm sorry to hear that Luke is still having these crying episodes and behaviors, though. You probably saw on the list where I posted that we went through this very same thing with Katie last summer. We never got any real answers on why it was happening, but it did eventually stop for her. It was a very long, agonizing three months, though. It just broke my heart to watch her go through that and not know what was bothering her. My heart goes out to you. I hope things improve for Luke soon.
YAY AN UPDATE WOOT WOOT thought ud given up on the blog or soething hugs
